The universal museum is the subject of much current debate. Is it a relic of colonialism? Or does it help to support debates about multiculturalism, cosmopolitanism and the building of mutual understanding through culture? Kavita Singh will shift perspective and look at the universal museum as it appears to those who live outside the metropolitan centres where these grand museums are currently located. She will also re-examine the universalism vs nationalism debate.

Power and Piety: Religion, Politics and the University

The current global political environment raises questions about the interrelations between religion and politics, especially when looking at autocratic trends surfacing in Europe or in Israel. In this context, the responsibility of universities comes to the fore: they can explain and help to understand such phenomena and are able to suggest ways of confronting these new challenges.
