Die alljährliche Erman-Vorlesung der BBAW, benannt nach Adolf Erman (1854–1937), dem Begründer der ägyptischen Sprachwissenschaft und Nestor der „Berliner Schule“ der Ägyptologie, findet 2016 im Rahmen eines Symposiums zu Ehren des Ägyptologen Wolfgang Schenkel statt. Pascal Vernus wird zur ägyptischen Linguistik seit Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts sprechen und die Verdienste Schenkels würdigen.
