The panel will examine the Cold War and the prospect of a ‘new’ Cold War, with particular attention to the interaction between the historical Cold War and contemporary dynamics. The discussion will be framed through the lens of U.S.–China rivalry, while also recognizing that the Cold War was never a singular or static phenomenon. Rather, it evolved over time, shaped by ideology, geopolitics, competing social models, and diverse global perspectives. The debate will consider both continuities and divergences between the Cold War’s multiple historical forms and the complexities of today’s international order.
